Template:Nav Movement[edit source]

Could you recreate that bit of tab magic you did with Nav Weapons? I tried to do it, and it didn’t necessarily work... Scrubbanubnub (talk) 11:29, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

What exactly are you trying to achieve? It seems fine on my end. Surafbrov (talk) 13:17, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Its not that the table doesn't work, its that it doesn't open the related section for the part. The Chord is a perfect example; when you go to the Chord page, the table opens only the section that the chord is in, leaving the others closed. I tried to recreate that for the movement parts, but it doesn't seem to work. 216.54.120.82 13:50, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Okay, I see what you're talking about. So in the code where |state is defined for each section, you included terms like "light" for Light wheels or "medium" for Medium wheels, etc.. In order for these to be uncollapsed for a article, you'd have to add the related term to the article itself like: {{Nav Movement|light}}. See here for an example on the Starter wheel article. The section for tracks, for example, can use either of those four terms that is provided (tracks, treads, track, tread): {{Nav Movement|tracks}}, {{Nav Movement|tread}}... You get the idea. Surafbrov (talk) 14:00, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
So that's what it was! Thanks dude, once I find a bit of freetime, I'll continue updating the pages with the Navtable's. 216.54.120.82 14:06, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Awesome! Do let me know if you need any help with anything! Surafbrov (talk) 14:22, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Importing Templates[edit source]

Could you import the ambox template from the ark wiki? It’ll clean up the stub template as well as making it easy to make more templates. I tried to do it myself, but unfortunately I don’t have the clearance for it. They also told me that you’ll need to import the css for it. Scrubbanubnub (talk) 11:44, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Done. Also updated {{Stub}} to use it. Surafbrov (talk) 12:04, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
Nice! Made a few templates while I was at it, but I come with yet another request: Could you alter the infobox template and add a description line? It'll go under the image and it would allow the ingame part description to be placed on the infobox. I tried to do it, but that template is complex... 216.54.120.82 14:23, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
Trying to make it a caption for the image? Pretty sure that is the |main image desc= parameter on {{infobox}}. Surafbrov (talk) 21:41, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
I forgot that I didn't send a reply to this, but |main image desc= doesn't exactly work. Most, if not all, pages use the regular parameter for images; I don't think any of them use the main image parameter. Maybe you could just change the name of it?
My eventual goal is to have the infoboxes look like the parameter "cards" that weapons have in-game, so I'd figure I'll let you know about that ahead of time. 216.54.120.82 13:52, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
New infobox completely broke the old ones, but that's not necessarily a bad thing; this allows us to reorder the information easily (testing with the Chord now). Also, could you try adding a thin white yellow outline to the infobox? It looks weird without an outline, or at least it does to me. 216.54.120.82 16:15, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
The old infobox was completely scrambled for me to work with it. This new infobox is the more standard use. Still messing around with the CSS for the infobox, if you'd like to suggest adjustments, feel free! (I did just add CSS for it, you may need to CTRL+F5) Some examples to look at: Powerplant, Scrap metal and Copper. Surafbrov (talk) 16:22, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
I'd recommend grouping up labels and data between defined headers, there shouldn't be a box for each individual label-data pair as that just leads to a very lengthy infobox. Maybe you could also try centering the headers, along with that change, you could either remove the forced caps entirely or make them small caps, whichever happens to look better. 216.54.120.82 16:32, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Formatting looks good from here; another minor request though, perhaps you could add a comment parameter to the data and/or label parameters? Mostly going to use it to define specific information that tied too closely to other bits of information to deserve its own section (ex. The damage type would be a comment on the damage stat(s).) 216.54.120.82 16:55, 8 April 2019 (UTC)

┌──────────────────────────┘
Not sure if I follow exactly. Surafbrov (talk) 17:03, 8 April 2019 (UTC)

The best example I can give is the comment function(Parameter? Not sure if I'm using the right word anymore) found under Tameable in the infobox on https://ark.gamepedia.com/Wyvern. 216.54.120.82 17:11, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Okay, I see what you're talking about. Surafbrov (talk) 17:15, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Please don't use the {{Infobox}} directly on articles. Make a template to use the data parameters. Surafbrov (talk) 17:46, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, that thought dawned on me a few minutes after I hit save changes, All I have to do is just make a template named Infobox Weapon and port the required information, right? 216.54.120.82 17:49, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Pretty much yes, {{Infobox weapon}}. Surafbrov (talk) 17:50, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
My only concern is the images and such, is there a way to preserve the icons (and keep them behind the inserted data)? 216.54.120.82 17:55, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
To just let the template deal with grabbing the correct image.. or? Surafbrov (talk) 17:59, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
I mean how to keep an image in place, say if I input data under mass, how would I force the mass icon to appear after the text without making the editor type mass.png for each page? 216.54.120.82 18:03, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Do something like this so the image is included and will only display if a value is given for |mass=. Surafbrov (talk) 18:08, 8 April 2019 (UTC)

Image uploading[edit source]

Is there a way I can send you an image? I made a higher quality version of the durability icon as I plan to use it for a template. However, guest accounts do not have upload perms, so if not, I'll have to wait until I get home, which leaves a chance that I might forget... Which wouldn't exactly be ideal... 216.54.120.82 15:59, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

You can probably use imgur to send it over. Surafbrov (talk) 17:09, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
Imgur is blocked; should I just wait and hope to remember? 216.54.120.82 17:20, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
Yea, that'd be the best. You could add a reminder to your talk page or remember to look back to this conversation. :P Surafbrov (talk) 17:23, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
While your here, I have another request: Would it ok for me to propose a few overhauls to the main front page (via image)? It looks quite sloppy imo. I could scrap up a few prototypes in Paint or something... Your call though. 216.54.120.82 17:36, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
Well, there is an editcopy that allows editors to propose changes for the main page. Surafbrov (talk) 17:58, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
This project is probably going to take some time, but atleast it'll kill time during exams later this week 216.54.120.82 18:12, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Formatting issue[edit source]

So I have found a bit of an issue with image formatting... Currently I have:
Folder With Documents
Energy1.pngThis folder bearing the Starburnts logo was discovered behind a panel during the disassembly of an unremarkable old truck that was abandoned by the s...

Notice how it pushes the text down. What I'm trying to do is have both of the non-bold lines go beside the image, is this a formatting limitation or am I just not thinking outside the box? 216.54.120.82 14:16, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

Could do something like this:
Energy1.png Folder With Documents
This folder bearing the Starburnts logo was discovered behind a panel during the disassembly of an unremarkable old truck that was abandoned by the s...
This could also be turned into a template so the table doesn't have to be repeated every time, and just easier to update it.
Surafbrov (talk) 14:27, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
Thats... Exactly what I was trying to do! Now to test it in the field... 216.54.120.82 14:33, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

More about infoboxes[edit source]

I don't think the comment function will actually work like it is right now in the infobox, maybe we should have it as a mouseover instead? Also, could you add a 5th section to the editcopy of the front page, align it on the left side if possible. Going to figure out the timer feature and we could (Possibly) time events... 216.54.120.82 12:47, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

{{Infobox part}}, how's that for the comment parameter? Added another section here: Crossout Wiki/editcopy/Section 4 for the main page. When re-arranging the sections, do keep in mind about the mobile view of the page. Surafbrov (talk) 13:22, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
Could you import https://ark.gamepedia.com/Template:Countdown? Wolf told me to start importing instead of pasting because it preserves the history so... 216.54.120.82 13:36, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
Okay imported and the extension was enabled so it will work. Surafbrov (talk) 13:58, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
It mostly works after I removed the links, though I'm not sure why the numbers are not appearing 216.54.120.82 14:02, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
It appears for me after I CTRL+F5. Surafbrov (talk) 14:04, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
Right after I posted that, it started working. I guess it just needed a bit more time to load... 216.54.120.82 14:05, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

Main screen submisson[edit source]

I think I'm done with the editcopy. While the new main screen can definitely be longer, I think its fine until this wiki starts getting traffic, thus leading to suggestions from the community! What do you think though? 216.54.120.82 14:46, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

There is a big empty space under "Wiki Community", the "Welcome" message could be centered and the icon probably isn't needed. Could you get an image for the Knight Riders? Surafbrov (talk) 15:30, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Not sure how to get some of these pics though, like how did you get some of the icon versions of images? Example:Icon LightMG.png. 216.54.120.82 16:45, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
That was user Trezi13me. Usually they are obtained by digging into the game files to extract them, kinda similar to World of Warcraft. But possibly a much different way to extract. Surafbrov (talk) 16:55, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

Tabbers and Navboxes[edit source]

Pie said it was possible to combine the two with some css magic, I'll need 5 tabs in total (for rarities).Template:Nav Decorations might be conceivable if we can get it to work, so good luck and lets hope it works out. 216.54.120.82 13:10, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

Like this? Surafbrov (talk) 15:16, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
No, like

kinds of tabbers

Sample2

216.54.120.82 16:15, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
I prefer to call what you showed 'Subheaders'; the idea behind using tabbers is to prevent an obnoxiously long Navbox. Though I'll try an idea with the subheaders and see if it works. 216.54.120.82 16:17, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
I'm still confused on what you mean that you want to combine the two. While, no matter what, Decorations will be a long list. Sometimes, a Navbox isn't necessary especially when the list is just way too long and can very much just rely on categories. Surafbrov (talk) 17:01, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
When I say combine the two, I mean have the Navbox contain tabbers within to seperate some of the main sections, like a common tab with (sub)headers for different types of common decorations. 216.54.120.82 17:40, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
I see. What are the names to separate each type of decoration? Surafbrov (talk) 18:01, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
Probably just going to base them off of type, so signs, exhauts, etc... Scrubbanubnub (talk) 18:41, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
{{Nav Decorations}} okay; Well, here is the basic template for rarities unless it should go base on types. The content for each section will be separated to a different template, e.g. {{Nav Decorations/Common}}. Surafbrov (talk) 18:57, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

┌──────────────────────────┘
After extensive testing, it turns out that the Tabber idea will simply not work. While the setback isn’t too extreme, i’m still worried about the length of the final product... Scrubbanubnub (talk) 22:00, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

There are still other options. Sometimes a navbox isn't necessary; for an example, this kind of stuff can be handled by categories. Surafbrov (talk) 22:31, 21 April 2019 (UTC)
I would prefer to still have a page on the subject if we don’t use a navbox; sure, while we do currently have a page, I don’t want it to be excessively long. I might stop working on it for the time being and instead work on something not as extreme, like Contact 2M or something... That should let me clear my head and allow me to work efficiently again. Thankfully, Notepad++ saves the formatting so no progress will be lost. Scrubbanubnub (talk) 14:35, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
Of course a page on the subject would be needed, how else would people know about decorations!? :P Surafbrov (talk) 17:17, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

Template port request[edit source]

https://ark.gamepedia.com/Template:Move
Could become useful for mass movement of images when I manage to get ahold of Beta Angel
216.54.120.82 13:55, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

{{Move}}; it already exists but just needed a makeover. Surafbrov (talk) 14:09, 25 April 2019 (UTC)
